The GOPA and POPP Advocacy Services
Who are our services for?
GOPA Advocacy Services are available to any person of age 50 or over who lives within the county of Gloucestershire. Our services are designed for people who are experiencing an issue in their lives and feel their voice is not being heard.
POPP Advocacy Services are available to any person who is in a care home, or going into a care home from hospital in the county of Gloucestershire. Again they may be experiencing an issue and feel that other people have their own agendas and are not listening to their point of view.
What are some typical cases?
Recent cases have included:
- helping someone gain proof of identity and open a bank account
- helping someone sell their house and move into a care home
- helping someone make a complaint against a utility company
- helping someone make a complaint about the care services they receive
- helping someone make a budget to assist them in paying off a debt
But these are not a complete list and your issue may be different, we are here to help whenever an older person feels they don't have a voice and wants someone to speak or write letters on their behalf or represent them at meetings in order to help them resolve an issue in their lives.
Advocacy in Care Homes
GOPA also have a scheme whereby we pair advocates with care homes and they visit on a regular basis. This is funded by POPP (Partnerships for Older People's Projects). Our advocacy service is still available to anyone in any care home in Gloucestershire whether or not they are in one of the homes in which we operate this special service.
